1989, Ph. D. Philological Faculty, Belgrade University, Thesis title: "Hermeneutics and Some Problems in Translation of the Holy Texts (especially the Qur'an) into Serbo-Croatian Language", (Advisor: Rade Bozovic).
Prof. Karic has attended several postgraduate courses at the Cairo University, Al-Azhar University, the Yale University, and the Oxford University.
Experience:
Currently, Prof. Karic is professor of the Qur'anic Studies and History of the Interpretation of the Qur'an at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Sarajevo.
He also teaches postgraduate courses at the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Law, Sarajevo University.
In the period 1994-96 he served as the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports in the Government of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In the period 1976-78 he was editor-in-chief of ZEMZEM, a youth magazine published by The Gazi Husrevbeg Medresa, Sarajevo.
In the period 1988-90 he was the editor-in-chief of Islamska Misao (The Islamic Thought), a monthly dedicated to the study of contemporary Islamic thought and civilization.
Since 1990 he is a member of the Advisory Board of AL-Furqan, The Foundation for the Preservation of the Islamic Manuscripts based in London, ands founded by Ahmad ZakiYamani.
He is also a member of the Editorial Board Committee of Islamic Studies, Islamabad, Pakistan.
